The Lutheran North Crusaders were ready and willing to be first.
First in state and first team to beat the Stafford Indians in 115 games. For the first 3 frames of the game, the Northside crew have them a real run for their money. If any team could do it, it was this team.
The Stafford Indians went off in the fourth quarter to secure their fourth State title in as many years.
Hayley Frank finished with 34 points for the Indians and pulled 11 boards to help push her team to victory.
Crusader Senior Madison Buford was visibly upset after their 61-53 lost. Buford had 14 points and was a key leader in their second place win but this kind of loss stings.
A valiant performance by the Crusaders, led by coach Chris Forrest, kept the score close for the majority of the game. Forrest and crew were unable to find a late spark and fell short of their goals.
The Crusaders finish the season 26-6 and 2nd year coach Forrest is forging together a tracking record of winning teams. Last year, Lutheran North finished 24-3 in the State Quarterfinals, narrowly missing a trip to State in a 50-48 loss to Clark County. The future is bright for Forrest and his squad.
