DOWNTOWN – It is the walk that turns plenty of heads, and opens a few eyes as well. Men in high heels were strutting their stuff to make a point, Thursday,
in the seventh annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event.
The images border on hysterical, as men of all shapes and sizes attempt to walk across the Eads Bridge and back wearing high heels. But the purpose of the walk is deadly serious. The goal is to raise awareness about rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
The walk, put on by St. Louis’ YWCA, draws a crowd every year. Local sports teams have gotten into the act as well, with the Cardinals’ “Fredbird” and the Blues’ “Louie” mascots taking part.
