New police badges have a Stanley Cup flair

DOWNTOWN – St. Louis police officers will have the Stanley Cup close to their hearts for the next year … literally. New badges are being minted and will hit the streets this month, paying tribute to the Blues Stanley Cup victory and the role police played in the fun, according to the team.

“Throughout the months of May and June, the hard work in ensuring the safety of hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the St. Louis Blues’ historic Stanley Cup Championship run and celebration was on display for the world to see,” a release from the police department said.  “The decades-long relationship between the team and our Department was fully realized in an unprecedented and incident-free championship celebration under the St. Louis Arch.”

Officers who want to wear the new badge will have to foot some of the bill, paying half the cost. The other half is being covered by the St. Louis Police Foundation.

Officers will be allowed to wear the new badges from opening night on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, until June 1, 2020.

The badges are expected to arrive sometime in October.
