ST. LOUIS – Annie Malone Children and Family Services has announced Midwest BankCentre as the sponsor for the 110th annual May Day Parade and Family Reunion Weekend, May 14-17.
The parade is the nation’s second-oldest African-American parade, begun to celebrate the work of caring for children at what was then the St. Louis Colored Orphans Home. Malone was a major donor to the home, where she served as president on the board of directors in 1919-1943, and the facility was later renamed in her honor.
The parade attracts more than 10,000 people to downtown St. Louis and features more than 150 floats, bands and other units. This year’s parade theme is “Shine Bright: STL to Hollywood,” spotlighting area artists who have excelled in the entertainment industry.
In addition to the parade, the second Community Day in The Ville will be held on May 16. There will be food, entertainment, vendors and children’s activities at Annie Malone’s headquarters, 2612 Annie Malone Dr.
“Annie Malone exists to make lives better for children and families,” said Sara Lahman, CEO of Annie Malone Children and Family Services. “Having a partner that is as committed as we are to improving the quality of life for people in our community is a perfect match.”
Midwest BankCentre CEO Orvin Kimbrough stated,“The strength and creativity of our financial services help more people step into their dreams and energize the neighborhoods that nurture our community’s children and families. We are thrilled to partner with the Annie Malone organization as presenting sponsor for this treasured community tradition and this significant resource to children and families.”
