MoDOT closes Jefferson under I-44 this weekend

ST. LOUIS – Drivers who plan to use Jefferson Avenue near Interstate 44 this weekend will need to find alternative routes as MoDOT closes the roadway under the interstate to remove the eastbound bridge over Jefferson.

Crews closed Jefferson in both directions, starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, with all lanes being closed by 8 p.m.

The ramp from eastbound I-44 to Jefferson, the ramp from westbound I-44 to Jefferson and the ramp from Jefferson to westbound I-44 will all remain open. Drivers on northbound Jefferson will not be able to access eastbound or westbound I-44.  Northbound Jefferson is closed at Russell Boulevard, and only local traffic will be able to access the businesses further north, such as Johnny Brock’s and Randall’s.

Detours for the closure are marked.

On Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7 a.m., crews will close the westbound lane on I-44 at the Interstate 44/Interstate 55 interchange to make pavement repairs. I-44 traffic will be routed down the Jefferson ramps to get back on the interstate. There are no expected impacts to the ramp coming from I-55.

Crews will also close the left eastbound lane on I-44 at Jefferson at 7 a.m., also for pavement repairs. That work should be completed by 5 p.m.

All Jefferson lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, March 2.

The project will replace both the westbound and eastbound I-44 bridges over Jefferson.
