Board of Aldermen meet May 15, debate scrutiny of Echols

CITY HALL – Board bills and resolutions opened the agenda of the full Board of Aldermen on Friday, May 15; but the most heated discussion centered on criticism from some quarters of Dr. Fredrick Echols’ credentials as director of the city’s health department.

A resolution sponsored by First Ward Alderwoman Sharon Tyus and seconded by 23rd Ward Alderman Joseph Vaccaro would require Echols to lay out his credentials to the board, to settle the question.

“I do believe that people have a right to face their accusers,” she explained.

The board agreed, with one “no” from Alderman John Collins-Muhammad, 21st Ward.
