New mural is eye-catching public safety reminder

DOWNTOWN – Frida Kahlo, the Mexican artist with the beetle brows, wears a face mask with the image of the St. Louis flag. Along with her iconic floral headdress and blue drop earrings, she also wears an air of nonchalance as she gazes out at passersby on 11th Street.

Kahlo is in good company at the Court Square building downtown. Next to her, also wearing face masks, are Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” and Vincent Van Gogh – carefully maintaining social distance.

On Kahlo’s other side is a version of the hands of God and Adam painted by Michelangelo at the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican.

Ah! A reminder to practice thorough hand-washing.

Dan Ricketts of St. Louis Sign and Mural and Evan Nichols of Topcoat Sign Co. are creating the mural, commissioned by the building’s owner.
