Market Street closes over soccer stadium site

DOWNTOWN WEST – The Market Street bridge over the site of the new MLS soccer stadium closed Monday, shutting off the main route from Jefferson Avenue to and from the heart of the city.

Originally, the rebuild was going to be part of the NGA project road improvements, including a full interchange at N. Jefferson and I-64/40, and enhancements to N. Jefferson and Cass avenues. The new ramps at Jefferson and the highway are already under construction.

The city’s website explains that the bridge closure and reconstruction work is being moved up “to ensure St. Louis CITY SC’s stadium is completed within the current projected construction schedule.”

Now, the bridge work is slated for completion in mid- to late March.

Drivers have multiple ways to get around the closed section of Market. The various recommended detours are described in detail on stlouis-mo.gov.
