Mass vaccinations coming to SLCC Forest Park campus

ST. LOUIS – A mass vaccination event is planned next week at the Forest Park campus of St. Louis Community College, 5600 Oakland Avenue in the Cheltenham neighborhood.

The Mega Vaccination Site will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. both Thursday, March 25, and Friday, March 26. Up to 3,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine will be provided each day.

The state is working with the city health department and using the state’s Vaccine Navigator to identify eligible Missourians in activated phases who have previously registered and are awaiting vaccination.

“It’s welcome news to have a state-run mega vaccination event coming to St. Louis Community College at Forest Park,” Mayor Lyda Krewson said in a statement. “These large-scale events are important in our shared fight to end the pandemic and save lives.” She pledged to continue working to bring more vaccines to the city.

Gov. Mike Parson and state health officials have faced strong criticism over the distribution of vaccines, with allegations of favoritism toward rural, Republican areas – Parson is a Republican – versus urban centers including St. Louis and Kansas City.

“The additional vaccine doses this Mega Vaccination Site will provide to Region C will continue to alleviate some of the backlog that many local providers are currently facing due to the high demand for vaccines in the St. Louis area,” Parson said. He acknowledged the current lack of supply available to many Missourians.

“While supply does not currently allow a vaccine for everyone who wants one and waitlists will continue, this event puts us one step closer to our goal of providing every Missourian the opportunity for a vaccine,” he said.

Other mass vaccination events in the area will be:

  • March 25 – St. Charles, Family Arena, 2002 Arena Parkway, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • March 26, 27 – St. Louis County, Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park, 550 Weidman Road, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

More details and local registration links for the above vaccination events will be posted on MOStopsCOVID.com/events once they are available. Missourians interested in receiving a vaccine at other state-supported events are encouraged to use the state’s Vaccine Navigator.
