WARD 1: Yolanda Brown

Neighborhood: Kingsway East

Occupation: 1st Ward Committeewoman/Homemaker

Political experience: I’m currently serving as 1st Ward Committeewoman and was recently re-elected to a second term.

Your take on crime: no reply

Your take on city finances: I believe our city is in decent shape financially. We have an excellent comptroller who I believe is very committed to seeing to it staying that way. I would like to see more money applied to essential city services such as Illegal dumping being abated and forestry cutting vacant lots more often.

Your take on the city’s COVID 19 response: Given COVID-19 is something we’ve never experienced, I feel the city’s response was quite adequate. I appreciated the daily updates given by the mayor and Dr. Echols. I feel that the city took everyone’s safety seriously and the lockdown/mask requirement, as well as the curfew, were all very much needed. I would like to see more opportunities for the COVID vaccine in North City.  I believe the governor could do a much better job of making that happen.

Where do you place yourself on the political spectrum? – Progressive, moderate, conservative, liberal? I consider myself to be a Liberal. I feel that I’m an open-minded person who believes reproductive rights of women, voting rights, the right to an adequate standard of living, and of course civil rights. Among many another human/ humane rights.
